Job Title: Early Childhood Programs Preschool Lead Teacher (4-5-Year-olds)

 

Reports to: Rian Hood, OCSD Community Education Supervisor

 

Position Description: Provides an overall educational experience for preschool-age children in which each child can grow emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically according to their needs, ability level, and maturity. The Lead Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting activities contributing to the language, educational, social-emotional, and physical development of children to equip them for a successful transition into Kindergarten. This position requires creativity and adaptive thinking to match teaching objectives, learning strategies, and instructional plans that will support a half-day Preschool Program. They must be passionate about working with young children, have good communication skills, and enjoy collaboration with other team members. Candidates must be patient and empathetic towards children from diverse social backgrounds and with a wide range of learning abilities. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Provides instruction individually and in groups in areas prescribed by OCSD Early Learning Center.
• Identify student's needs and provide activities to nurture the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of the preschool child.
• Establish and maintain standards of child behavior appropriate to Preschool children to achieve a functional and healthy classroom learning environment.
• Develops lesson plans and instructional material as part of the planned learning experiences to motivate preschool children.
• Evaluate student emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development, maintain appropriate records, prepare conference reports, and communicate with parents on an individual student's progress. 
• Creates a functional and attractive environment for learning including displays, bulletin boards, and learning centers.
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members and parents in assessing and helping to solve student health, social, and learning growth opportunities.
• Maintains open continuous communication with parents through personal conferences and group meetings in the interest of student needs.
• Maintains professional competence through participation in educational staff development and/or In-service activities.
• Completes all required reports including student assessments, classroom evaluations, and lesson plans.
• Follows all safety and program guidelines.

Other Duties and Resoponsablitites:

• Attends faculty and other meetings as required.
• Performs basic attendance accounting as required.
• Assists in the selection of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.

Supervision Exercised or Received:

• Under the immediate direction of the Program Coordinator and Building supervisor.
• Supervises instructional aides, and parent volunteers when applicable.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• Step 8 or above in the Oregon Registry Online.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is highly encouraged.
• Knowledge of the development needs of preschool-age children.
• Ability to communicate effectively with preschool children and adults.
• Knowledge of appropriate learning activities for preschoolers.
• Ability to work with other adults in a teaming situation.
• Awareness of Preschool developmental needs and students with IFSPS who are receiving ESD services.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for children
• Teach up to 10 children in both large and small group settings
• Ability to be on the floor at the child's level when necessary
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and coworkers
• Demonstrate excellent attendance & punctuality
• Ensure that the programs are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate and follow Oregon City School District and Oregon City Community Education policies, procedures, and mission.
• Active First Aid/ CPR Card.
• Food Handlers Card

 

Wages & Hours: Up to $23/hour depending on Education and Experience. Class hours are from 8:00 AM- 12:00 PM. Working hours are from 7:30 AM - 1:30 Pm. (Part Time 31 hours) 

 

This is an “At Will” position (NO CONTRACT) and follows the Oregon City School District Calendar.
